In this way the hope is articulated that action can be guided by pure insight alone into the brute intelligibility of the world, an insight that is taken to be free and unencumbered by political or social interests.

Whereas the former is a clear instance of the idea of a specifically political philosophy, in that it seeks to understand the complex ways in which theoretical insight is shaped and mediated by concrete institutional and social forms, the latter seems to be an instance of a philosophical idealism premised on a claim to the ultimate independence of the philosopher from those complexes of interest that constitute actual political existence.
